Last lesson, Sophie and I searched through a lot of magazines to find the target audience for our music video. As we have thought of using a Rihanna song, we searched for pictures of her because on the internet we found that people tend to be more interested in her style rather than her music, although her music is very important and people are still very interested in that as well, of course! We thought that by finding pictures of her in the magazine we would be able to see what type of clothing she wears and where she gets it from, and we would use this to find her target audience by asking people where they also get their clothing from. This question would not show the person answering the questionnaire what the aim of the questionnaire is and it would allow us to see what type of target audience would be best for our music video.
We also looked for both boys and girls, because even though mostly girls listen to Rihanna's songs, because of the meaning of the songs, boys do as well because they are interested in the look of her and maybe also the beat and sound of the songs. In link with this we also looked at young teenagers being the target audience because they uses sources of media more, including listening on YouTube and the radio, which would allow them to know of Rihanna and her songs. Rihanna's music is also directed toward pop and R&B audiences which we would be able to target through a questionnaire.
By reaching out to people and asking them what the genre of music they listen to, and enjoy the most, we are able to see whether we have picked the right target audience for our music video.

Bruno Mars- The lazy song
A one shot music video is described to consist of action, continuous from the perspective of a single camera and a single long take. a successful one shot video will take lots of planning and will need lots of preparation in order for it to work properly without any hitches. Everyone within the scene will need to know what they are doing and be aware of everyone around them so that they can all tie in. To further this timing will be key, they will need to know when they are meant to move/act/sing/etc.
Bruno Mars' music video for 'the lazy song' was a one shot video in which is very simple but well planned and has been a big hit.
The whole video is one continuous and uninterrupted shot of Mars singing in a bedroom and the chimps dancing, goofing off and mimicking to the song's lyrics. Philip Lawrence makes an appearance, uttering the line "Oh my God, this is great" before being driven off by the chimps; he later reappears in the end.
I choose to look at this video as i am a very bit fan of Bruno mars himself and of this music video. this video is purely one shot and has no edits or bits in which you may wonder if there was an edit. This took lots of planning from the company so that it worked well.
Bruno mars had many things to think about when making this video, he had to make sure that all his dancing was in time, that he came in and done the right movements on time, that he sung on cue and that he did mess up. If he did the whole video would need to be re-done. this made planning very time consuming as not only did you have to plan each shot as a long take.
however within this video there are two bits in which make me wonder if there has been some editing, Bruno mars covers the camera lens in which may suggest that there is a quick cut/edit, however i believe that i can still see the extras leaving the screen through the sides of his hands suggesting that there is no cut or edit but there is a possibility. To further this there is also a section in which Bruno mars catches the guitar, this is at 2.45mins. He manages to catch it very smoothly, this suggests to me that there may have been an edit here.
Overall i really enjoyed looking at this video as i think it is very well planned and filmed.

Something I found out...
So... whilst I have been searching for a one shot music video, I came across the song OK Go - This Too Shall Pass. This music video is supposed to have been shot in one take, where a four minute sequence of the song is being played in time to the actions of a giant Rube Goldberg Machine. BUT I have seen that apparently the Rube Goldberg Machine was filmed as three continuous takes which were spliced together in post production. It has been mentioned that there is a cut at 2:27 when a curtain opens.
Shocking...
That's just a little fact I found out !
One Shot Music Video!
We have been asked to look at a one shot music video where the video and all of the shots in it, are filmed in one shot. One shot videos are taken in one long take and here is one I have found...
Greg Laswell (Take Everything).
I found this particular music video fascinating because not only is it taken in one shot, it is also in reverse.
This means that the Greg had to sing the song backwards, for example, whilst researching this song, I found out, the following is the chorus of the song...
“Hooo ooor mnayeem maurf gni thear vleh guess nada owoogh.”
I believe that Greg is a talented singer for having to sing the chorus backwards, and it also makes the music video effective because it is not like normal music videos; it is a challenge for the makers of it and also the singer. It was challenging for Greg to learn the song backwards and here is a quick and interesting fact I found out about the video..
The entire song took him about 3 days to record in the studio and it took him four days to learn it backwards.
This shows that learning the words backwards was harder than actually recording the song.
As well as learning the words of the song backwards I also believe the props and the making of the music video is fascinating.
CLICK THE LINK BELOW
to see the making of the music video.
From looking at the behind the scenes video, it is clear that the lighting has been changed, and I think this makes the music video effective because it matches the surroundings. Also, Greg had to do all of his moves backwards because the other people and props were going in the right direction, and therefore when they were reversed, Greg had to be going in the opposite direction. This just adds to amount of work and effort that Greg had to put into the shoot, and shows that his hardwork paid off.
The atmosphere of the music video was intense because there was so many things going on at once. In a one shot music video it is hard to get everything done at a precise time and this is why the video worked so well. From the coloured bouncy balls to the putting on of the boots, there is a lot of action going on in between and it shows that a lot of preparing and planning of the music video has been done for it to be successful.
I would like to incorporate some of the ideas for this video into our music video, for example the pillow fight in the background would be a great idea to use because one of our song ideas (Rihanna -Cheers) is all about having fun, and I think this would be the perfect thing to do.
Overall, I believe that this particular music video is a perfect example of a one shot music video, because not only is it shot in one take, it is also reversed, which makes the music video even more impressive. :)
We're back! :)
So.. it's a new year and we are starting on music videos!
Sophie and I have come together and formed a new group, and we are SO excited to start this music video!
In the lessons we have learnt about the different types of music videos, such as performance videos (e.g. Bon Jovi - Apologies), concept videos (e.g. OK go - Here It Goes Again) and narrative videos (e.g. A-ha - Take On Me). We then put these three types of music videos onto a piece of paper and came up with a few songs and ideas for them. These included the songs Rihanna - Cheers (Drink To That) and Ed Sheeran - The A Team. We did a brainstorm and Sophie will be uploading this soon to show the ideas we came up with for each of the songs. :)
